While The Last Word Intimate Hotels are renowned as luxury bed and breakfast boutiques, we do, upon special request, offer lunches and dinners; particularly at The Last Word Long Beach, which serves nightly seafood suppers in order to accommodate an absent fine dining experience in the remote Kommetjie area.

Because The Last Word Constantia is nestled amidst fine restaurants such as La Colombe and Constantia Uitsig’s Open Door; while the Franschhoek hotel is a three-minute walk from Ryan’s Kitchen, Foliage and Allora, we make exclusive dinner reservations for our guests instead, and they return to us delighted by their unique dining experiences in appealing new places.

However, what many don’t know is that The Last Word Constantia does have its own flagship restaurant that has been serving delicious, contemporary food and beverages for years, and it’s just had an amazing facelift. Here’s what’s changed next door:

Four times the flavour

Peddlars and Co, known locally as ‘Peddlars on the bend,’ has evolved into a luxury and rather continental dining experience, for not only the public, but the many guests who stay at The Last Word Constantia. It’s an atmospheric, easy-going environment, a hop, skip and a jump through the hotel’s back gate and has so much new space for your enjoyment.

Thus, with the aesthetic interior upgrades to the Peddlars building, come four new restaurants, seamlessly contained under one roof, which permeate casual, upscale ambience and an easy exchange throughout.

VOLARE

FINE FOOD

Volare, Fine Food is a space where contemporary yet authentic bistro style dishes manifest and are paired with the finest wines in the Constantia Valley. The space’s modern yet classic white tablecloths and dinner settings evoke nostalgia in the seasoned dinner guest while the ambient, warm lighting, a glass front wine cellar stocked with a range of desirable bottles; and polished wooden floors instil a sense of subtle elegance, suited to any occasion.

SOCIAL SHARING

Just next door is Graciales Social Sharing, a modern yet youthful tapas and cocktail café where all ages come to enjoy the bite size delights of Chef Brad Ball and his team. Art deco and pop culture revival meet easy clean lines and vibrant, warm colours in an upmarket setting.

On the menu you’ll find anything from Miso glazed lamb ribs to pig’s cheeks croquettes with piccalilli puree. The new, long and elegant cocktail bar mixes up a range of signature and experimental drinks, alongside a row of artisan gins and eight different kinds of tonics.

Book a group sitting on a Winning Wednesday for half price tapas, available from 4-9pm, with half price cocktails on offer between 4:30 & 6:30pm.

THE OAK TERRACE

AL FRESCO

Just outside, the well-remembered Oak Terrace continues to delight, under its trademark Peddlars umbrellas and age-old oak trees.

Renowned for its fresh lunch and light meals menu, this is a space for everyone and is best enjoyed at noon and throughout the evening when the terrace lights come on and the social atmosphere is enlivened by a jovial after-work chatter.

For an easy lunch we recommend Brad’s Signature Beef Tataki with chilli, ginger and lime while dinner deserves a slow braised lamb shank with roast garlic mash and vegetables from our farm next door.

Our friendly staff will bring you an ice-bucket and appropriate glasses for any Constantia Estate wine that you want to bring into the house and the best part is, you won’t be charged corkage. Peddlars also stocks a variety of exceptional local wines in the glass-fronted cellar. Visit and browse the collection before your lunch or dinner.

THE LOCAL

OLD FAVOURITE

The Local, serving ice cold craft beer, a range of burgers and two for one single malts on Thursday nights is the perfect spot for the boys, girls and sports enthusiasts. It’s a social, Friday-night-lights kind of space where old friends usually meet and new ones are easily made.

Stocking every SAB beer under the sun as well as a range of local crafties on tap, you can’t go wrong from 4pm onwards when people gather for the beer-battered hake and chips, famous pork ribs and terrace cheese burgers with homely French fries. View the full gastropub menu on the website as well.

Screening live Super Sport fixtures daily, The Local at Peddlars & Co is the perfect match venue; whether you have PGA, Super rugby, Premier League or Protea test fever.
