Secluded Luxury in Constantia

Imagine that you’re in Cape Town, South Africa. The weather is flawless, and refreshing breezes sweep in just when you need them.

Secluded Luxury in Constantia

Maybe you’ve spent the day sipping on wine in one of Constantia’s lush vineyards, exploring the natural beauty of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, lounging on a powdery white sand beach or soaking up the views from atop Table Mountain. When your daily adventures are over, there’s no better feeling than coming home to a place of peace, calm and relaxation. Add luxurious comfort to the scenario and you’ve got the Last Word Constantia.

Whether you’re a frequent luxury traveler or a budget one with a desire to splash out now and again, the Last Word is a luxury escape in the form of a 9-room hotel set amongst secluded and beautifully maintained gardens. For a full-time traveler like me, it was the perfect place to recharge my batteries and explore a quieter side of Cape Town in style.

Upon entering the hotel, I was greeted by warm staff and shown to my elegant suite for the evening. As I opened the door and turned the corner, what I saw quite literally took my breath away. It was a room fit for a queen, and I wanted for nothing during my stay. The 95m² room was classically decorated and included a lounge area with flat screen television, an outdoor patio and seating area, a beautiful king-sized bed, and an enormous bathroom with double sink vanity, soaking tub, and dual shower heads. As Cape Town is currently going through a serious drought, guests should simply admire the bathtub for now! I was particularly enamored with the mosaic tiles of the shower area- a sparkling backdrop that when combined with the room’s chandeliers made me feel like I was in a fairytale.

With a fluffy bathrobe, slippers, and one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in at my disposal, it was difficult to find a reason to leave the room. The fully stocked fridge and coffee and tea bar made the task even more challenging, but the hotel’s amenities outside of the rooms are equally impressive and worth indulging in. The swimming pool and lounge area is a stunning oasis set amidst vibrant flowers and gardens, and there are plenty of tables in the garden to sit and enjoy a cup of tea and admire the lush greenery. There is also unlimited Wi-Fi throughout the property, a must for a guest like me who may be mixing business with pleasure. Sneak in some work by the pool, or switch off and enjoy the solitude. If you really desire some pampering, there are even on-site spa services to consider. In the evening, the turndown service was a nice touch that came along with some sweet bedtime treats.

When I woke up in the morning, I headed downstairs for the complimentary breakfast. I had my pick of fresh fruit, cheeses, meats, cereal, juices and more from the beautifully arranged buffet, and the option to choose a dish from the hot breakfast menu as well. Breakfast can be taken in the sunny garden area or inside of the restaurant. When the 11:00 AM checkout time came around, I reluctantly turned in the keys to my suite- a place I could have happily called home for many more days and hope to return to in the near future.
