Five Local Franschhoek Favourites

The quaint town of Franschhoek has a monumental history that forms an integral part of the town’s charm. Known as the Culinary Capital of South Africa it has a lot on offer to both locals and travellers. These are our five favourite Franschhoek activities … as recommended by the locals!

Horseback Valley Tours

Take an extraordinary tour of the town on horseback and experience the valley like never before. Horseback riding tours  in Franschhoek also includes wine tasting, which makes it the ideal date for touring couples.

Franschhoek Hiking Trails

Some locals say the best view of the valley is from above, and the best way to do this is by hiking through Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. It has been remarked as one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Cape Winelands. This easily accessible trail is also where you’ll be able to take the best sunset photos overlooking the Franschhoek valley.

The Wine Tram

The Franschhoek Wine Tram is everyone’s favourite way to tour the picturesque vineyards of Franschhoek whilst discovering the unique spirit of the valley. This leisurely experience is the ultimate way in which to become acquainted with the wide variety of wine farms whilst enjoying the surrounds.

Locally Made Chocolate

A visit to the Huguenot Chocolate Factory is something all Franschhoek frequenters should do at least once. End your afternoon on a sweet note with a chocolate tasting or go behind the scenes for a chocolate making demonstration.

Weekly Farmers’ Market

As any true local would tell you, the Farmers Market is a must. This amazing market runs every Saturday from 10:00-15:00 and is host to some of the valleys finest food and of course a variety of local wines. A morning visit to the market is a great way to start your weekend!
