The Lions of Kitara

A few fun facts about the gorgeous lions of The Last Word Kitara.

The Lions of Kitara

Lions are one of our all time favourite animals and so we get extra excited when we spot them on a game drive. Here are a few fun facts about the majestic lion.

Did you know that lions are the largest African cats? A female can weigh up to 130kg when she reaches adulthood, and a male lion reaches about 190kg as an adult.

A lions’ roar can be heard up to 8km away.  They roar to tell other lions where they are, to show how large they are and to warn other lions away from their territory.

A female lion eats about 5kg of meat per day and a male lion eats about 8kg of meat a day. They also have rough tongues to soften tough skin when eating and to separate the bones and meat.
